Lending and borrowing
People, their own accounts, and why every movement is an ordinary transaction.
-
contacts: people per book, with only a name and an optional note. They never signed up, so nothing else about them is stored, and they’re never sent to the AI. -
Every person is also an account (kind
person, with the person’s id), added with them in the currency picked then (the book’s by default). Positive means they owe you; negative, that you owe them. It follows the person’s name and archiving, can’t change kind, and doesn’t take an account’s name. The accounts routes won’t make or change one (person_account): it changes through the person. It counts in net worth. It isn’t listed on Accounts or in the Overview’s accounts: people are on People, and are picked like accounts, under “People”. -
Every movement is an ordinary transaction, so net worth and spending stay right:
What happened Transaction You lend Tom $200 Transfer: Checking → Tom Tom pays you back Transfer: Tom → Checking You borrow from Mom Transfer: Mom → Checking Tom paid for your dinner Expense on Tom, with its category: you owe him, and it counts as your spending You forgive what’s left Expense (or income) on the person -
lentaccounts (money you lent; positive means they owe you) andloanaccounts (money you borrowed; negative means you owe them) can still link to a person: for a loan with its own details (installments, interest, a bill), or in another currency. They count in that person’s total. -
contact_balancesshows, per person and currency, what they owe you and what you owe them, from all their accounts. -
Deleting a person with nothing recorded deletes their account too. One with transactions, or linked to a lent or loan account, is archived instead, with their account, and the app says so (default, as for categories).
